Japan Day 2010
It’s been a while since I last updated here. I just didn’t feel like to write about some stuff that happened.
But now lets get straight to the point.
This weekend, on saturday, was the annual Japan Day in Düsseldorf, Germany.
If you don’t know about this event you can read about it on my previous articles for the 2008 (still in german) and the one from 2009.
Well, not much to say. I visit this event since 2005 every year so I don’t really have anything new to tell you.
Almost everything is the same every year. The Samurai Group Takeda showed their stuff again and I shot new pictures there.
They also showed their kyudo (archery) skills. Well, when I saw their performance they kinda sucked o_O
No bulls-eye at all, only the outer rings.
His umbrella says “I want sun!”. Good thing he is hiding from the sun under his umbrella.
The whole day was really hot and sunny but the weather forecast said that it would heavily rain in the evening hours so we decided to get back home at around 18:00. That means I once again missed the drum group which skipped last years Japan Day and came back this year but I don’t really care since I was really tired.
The children drum group. Not as good as the pros but still watchable.
The prefecture Chiba is an owner of a booth every year too. They showed a samurai armor on a real person.
In the article about last years Japan Day I introduced you to the J-Pop Girl Duo “Jelly Beans”.
The two girls came back to Düsseldorf to promote their first Album release. And they had a concert at the end of April.
I saw a youtube Video about their stage performance from last year and I thouhgt lucky them that they are cute.
They did a live performance this year as well, but started 20:30. Way too late for me.
It is mean to say but I don’t thing they can sing well. The most reason why they are so popular in Germany is, that they are cute and that they visit Germany to promote their stuff. We don’t see that many japanese singers/idols/actors in Germany. So if one visits us the Japanophiles are going insane.
The other booths showed us Ikebana, Origami, Go games, calligraphy or they were selling delicious food for ridiculous prices. Yokoso! Japan also had a booth and wanted to get more tourists fly over to Japan and see the real thing.
And that is what the Japan Day is about. The majority of the people visiting are teens who are otaku which mostly is equal to Japanophile. The rest of the people are either interested in Japan by some point - for example students of asian science or something -, some are just curious abouth this whole event and the rest are photographers and film crews.
As for cosplayers I am saving my energy and hard drive space for the animagic at the end of July. The quality there is way better.
On our way back to the station we stopped at the Japan Bookstore and I bought a 1 liter tetrapack Calpis syrup.
I really love this beverage and I couldn’t resist. It cost me 8,80 EUR but it is worth since I only can buy this once a year. And since it is syrup I get 5 liter for this price.
A few more pictures, mostly with my comrades, can be found at my flickr site or at the gallery.

hi, need your help in completing a survey on Blog Quality Evaluation @ http://www.surveygizmo.com/s/187637/blog-evaluation
tq
Oh, you’re going to be at animagic? how cool xD
lol, sorry for spamming, but I just took a quick look on your AnimagiC Gallery from 2009 Oo and I realized that you took a picture of me xDD (I’m the Nico Robin in the Enies Lobby outfit that was made out of vinyl xD with the vinyl overknee boots xD )
I just found a store a couple of miles away from me (Birmingham, UK) that sells Calpis in a can. Joy!
Damn, forgot to add. The export version of Calpis is called Calpico. The seem to be taking the “pis”. Guess it doesn’t go down well in western markets?
